WHY do you choose to give these memories more thought and attention?
WHEN you experience these reoccurring feelings how might they impact your relationships with others?
HOW present is your past in your mind's eye?
Self-Reflection Points
Awareness of your triggers can stop the cycle of reoccurring bad memories, thoughts, and even behaviors.
Where in your body do you feel discomfort when thinking about bad memories? Touch that place on your body where you feel the pain most (your head, your stomach) and take some relaxing deep breaths. Assure yourself that you are now in a safe place and try to release the pain. This may take time.
When memories and thoughts turn into physical reactions, this is usually caused by unresolved trauma. By addressing the trauma you will separate the thoughts from the emotions. This will help you to control your inward and outward physical reactions.
Hypnosis or deep thought methods can be used to bring up bad memories or past traumas. Be mindful that you are not putting yourself in that state of mind by overthinking or meditating on a bad memory or traumatic situation.
Keeping your mind busy with positive thoughts will help you to combat bad memories.
By taking control of your thoughts you take control of your memories/emotions. Be aware of what you are feeding your mind. What goes in is what will come out.
